The Shankar’s Story
Emigrating from Sindh in 1933 (pre-partition India) Jamnadas Bhojwani, Manu’s father, later established Malaya Silk Store in Singapore (1946), as the island and most South East Asian countries aspired to recover from the ravages of World War II and Japanese occupation.
In those environs, Jamnadas believed Wholesale Trading offered the safer, accelerated route to better fortune. Acquiring full control of Malaya Silk in 1947, he invited younger brother Harkishindas to join his ambitious enterprise. In 1957, the brothers established Shankar’s Emporium, a wholesale and trading business on High Street. Simultaneously starting retail outlets and expanding their
- Repertoire to include textiles, garments and electronics.
- Geographic operations/distribution to Eastern Europe, Middle East and North Africa (MENA), besides SE Asia and Indian Sub-Continent.
